Company profile

Up-and-coming
The Acoustical Imaging & Sound Control Department at the Delft University of Technology has been developing the hearing glasses concept since the 1980s. They are looking to solve the biggest problem facing the hearing impaired:  the (in)ability to distinguish speech amidst surrounding noise. The scientists’ main objective is the structural improvement of this so-called speech comprehension.

Further development
Entrepreneur Marc Sipkema founded Varibel B.V. in mid 2003 to further develop the hearing glasses concept. Prior to this Sipkema was, amongst other things, director of Essilor, one of the largest Dutch suppliers of optical products. He became particularly interested in designing hearing glasses, and resolved to pursue this concept. Together with Philips Nederland the hearing glasses were further refined and developed.

Launch
Having taken over the patent from TU Delft in 2004, Varibel was accredited by the World Organisation of Audiologists in 2006, and the product was launched in the Netherlands. In 2007 the hearing glasses became widely available in audio shops. By now Varibel hearing glasses boast ..... satisfied customers.

Ambition
The Varibel hearing glasses are a groundbreaking acoustic concept. The product meets the acoustic demands of the hearing impaired, and in so doing serves an, as yet, untapped market. Varibel B.V. aims to be the global leader in the production and sale of hearing glasses.
